Down The Middle

Down The Middle

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

What's going on

"
Not exactly the truth, but most figuratively.

Ripping, rendering, coming apart at the seams,

Tearing loose our foundation brings down the walls.

A self-induced disaster, we're pinned beneath the

rubble.

The left and right coasts scream at the middle,

the middle screams right back, both too set in their

beliefs.

And so, it's a disaster roller coaster on a closed track,

cursed to endlessly loop around, and around again.

Twins separated by miles of ideology,

share the same mother but now bitter enemies.

The coasts cries fascism, the middle communism,

and in the middle, our political machine,

a deer caught in the headlights, too afraid to move

It's hunting season out there, and they know it.
