The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

The sad sight that greets my eyes

"
Evil Knievel ain't got nothing on this canyon jump,

this grand canyon created and exploited by Trump,

setting wife against husband, grown children against

Mom or Dad.

To quote the bloated ego man himself, 'sad, very sad!'

Divisions, a widening gulf, a rending we may never

recover from,

The ultimate disaster to one side, and a blessing for

our country to some.

The crude mutterings of a man-child, or the ultimate

wisdom, depends

on where you stand--there is no middle ground, no

one pretends

to understand the other, and gather in the middle for

a meeting of the minds,

no, I'm sitting here watching as the thread of civility

unwinds.

The impossibly-distant bank of the other side is

out of our reach,

I must ask everyone, what kind of lesson to our kids

does this teach?
