Hopes

Hopes

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

My state of mind, and the state of the world

"
Abandon All Hope

Abandon all hope, oh, ye who expected

better,

and ye who saw a national dear John

letter,

a dear John letter to long-established

norms;

nothing left to do but ride out this storm.

But, I have a feeling this storm will rage

for years,

if it ever goes away, that's my darkest

fear.

******

Have You Seen My Hopes?

I know I left them around here

somewhere,

along with my optimistic good reason to

care.

Please, someone call 911, I done been

robbed.

I'd like to report a mugging, I've been

mobbed

by a bunch of blindside freaks who came

out of nowhere,

took the reins of power, and never, ever

fight fair.

Now I'm just watching--one minute, I had

hopes a-plenty,

the next I was clubbed, assaulted, and

now I ain't got any.

I'll admit, officer, that I wasn't too smart,

I turned my back,

let my guard down for just a sec, when

they launched their attack,

I'm new here and don't have anything posted, but for what it's worth, I think you have an ear for the sound of the written/read word. Hard for me to get passionate about politics, but I can't deny your talent.

Thank you, Harley, and welcome--and I WISH I wasn't so passionate about politics!
