The ProposalA Story by ImLikeMonicaAnother short little story from the lives of an unforgettable couple and their love. The Proposal As the
moonlight glittered down onto the darkened, rolling waves, the gentle breeze
rippled through my long locks. The peaceful ambiance of the Pacific never
failed to enchant me. The melody of the waves off in the distance drew me
closer as I collected my heels and meandered over the fluffy sand with my dress
fluttering behind with the wind. With only the moon’s glow, I found my way to
the top of the beach dune. It was there that I hesitated. Though I was
no stranger to the indescribable beauty and charm of the moonlit ocean, this was different. Gazing in awe down
below, the darkened waves of the Pacific continuously curled up onto the
naturally deserted midnight shore, except now it wasn’t exactly empty. Curiously, I made my way down the sand dune taking in a better view of the
dazzling scene laid out before me. It was there that I found hundreds
of tiny candles scattered the smooth sand along with luscious, purple rose petals
encircling me in addition to the soft moonlight. I stood there in a daze. I had never been filled with such
amazement and wonder. This isn’t real.
My thoughts
were interrupted as I abruptly caught the gentle shuffling of sand behind me. I
spun around and found myself caught in the gaze of his dazzling grey eyes. I
had no words for him as he sauntered towards me with an unreadable expression
and both hands in his pockets, however, my puzzled face said enough. He reached
out carefully squeezed my hand with his as he stepped in front of me. The playful
and teasing spark in his eyes from our dinner earlier in the night was now
replaced with such an array of emotions, of which I was unable to recognize. He
hesitated for a moment before he swallowed and opened his mouth to speak. “Leah,” he
gazed down at me. I gulped as I caught the hint of nervousness in his eyes. Why was he being like this? What was going
on? “I remember
the first time I saw you in high school was here at the beach. And the first thought that came to my mind was that I needed to know who you were. And ever since I met you, I have learned everything about you,” he
paused again to swallow as his brows pulled together in some frustration. “I've learned that you
are the most stubborn, difficult, and ill-tempered person I’ve ever met…” My
heart quickened and my fist clenched as my jaw hardened and my eyes began to
glaze once I gathered his harsh words. Then after a moment, it was then that his eyes softened. “But never
in my life have I come upon any person with such passion, humbleness,
understanding, nurture, charm and heart as you,” My welled up tears of anger
now rolled down in a different sense as he paused once more, this time taking a
deep breath. “You have
changed my life since that day we met here, you are my best friend. You are
everything to me, Leah. I know that we are young, but I already know that I do
not wish to live a life where you’re not next to me everyday.” At that moment,
he knelt down in front of me and revealing a small, ribbon-tied blue box from
his pocket. It was then that it all clicked together; the sobs began, my heart quuickened and my
head spun. He gazed up at me with his beautiful grey eyes and a smile playing
at his lips as he opened the box to unveil the most breath-taking and angelic ring
before me. “Oh my god,”
I whispered breathlessly. An exquisite round-cut diamond lie upon a silver band
lined with delicate stones, glittered in the glow of the moon and candles. I
beamed down at my prince in front of me as I took in my fairytale moment. “Leanna, I
love you so much. Will you do me the extraordinary honor of marrying me?” © 2011 ImLikeMonica |
