Superstitious

Darkness, and all color is shadow.
I stare into an abyss, yet my mind still sees
Contorted figures, staring eyes.

There is a Presence, and all my breaths are shallow.
My heart is pounding a suspenseful symphony
As my brain tries
To piece together a hollow puzzle
Where the shapes are in my mind.

Though I tell myself there is no truth in this response -
A frozen body, muscles tense and shaking kness -
I hear the world outside betray me
As an eerie wind starts screaming
In the trees.
