Metaphors of a Broken Heart

Metaphors of a Broken Heart

A Poem by Nagini Potter

Heart is shattered glass
constant ache, constant pain
waiting for the time to pass
until I go insane

Darkness is an unknown home
no honesty, no lie
as cold as a black stone
never counting the many times I cry

Pain is my lifeline

No one knows how hard I try

Vaguely hearing the distant chime

Signaling the time to die

So if you never think of me

Know you only hurt me more

Even if we will never be

The vision warms my core

Then when the vision leaves

Heart shatters asunder

I hide in the shadow of trees

Hiding from the oncoming thunder

Then when everything else is lost

I remember my lifeline

I remember the cost

And I run out of time
