Lake of Lies

Lake of Lies

A Poem by Nagini Potter
"

Another poem I wrote in AP English

"

Her mother sleeps in their lake of lies,

Claiming any furniture she falls on,

Stealing any money she happens upon,

Shattering the lives of her children,

Bathing them in false visions of security.

Her mother lives in her lake of lies,

Drinking poison in place of water,

Tearing the thick envelopes from the mail,

Refusing to seek the help her father wishes,

Shouting drunkenly of their normality.

Her mother died in her lake of lies,

Disregarding all signs of danger.

She took refuge in her room,

Sleeping in the lake of lies,

Living in her harsh reality.

The poem is powerful and the story is very sad. Many are lost and can't be found again. I buried a brother lost in alcohol and lies last year. It break the heart of many. Your description was powerful. I like the repetition. Made the poem stronger. A excellent poem.
