A Poem by Nan
Challenge #9 from the Pagemasters
inspired by a local singer at an outdoor festival..

she is
the samba train
round
coal fever
orange
light beam
ignores
the station
steel
wheel smooth
one
focus
into fog
common heart
in a constellation
belly
full of sol
stardust
glitter fall
she feeds
passion fruit
drops the moon
in your arms.

I love this poem: I take from it your own love of samba music. The rhythm of this poem is so suggestive of the samba music and what a lovely metaphor for samba music: a train with its fast, focused beat and then that switch at the end, to the singing herself, both the sun and starlight suggest her vibrance and the passion fruit she feeds, shows how exotic she is, I can read metaphor into this too. The ending image is exquisite: 'drops the moon/in your arms.' It's so resonant, its the sort of line that my mind will recite all day.
