Emperor's New ClothesA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Emperor’s New Clothes A story of excess Emperor in elegant attire He couldn’t be outdone He wanted his subjects to admire Two crafty tailors he hired To make an invisible suit So vane he pretended to see While the tailors stowed his loot Villagers feared to admit Emperor was in his underwear Only a little child spoke up And everyone stopped to stare Who was the fool in this story? The Emperor or all the people there The title belongs to all Everyone in the village square Except for the child in the crowd He looked on with innocent eyes Emperor was the biggest fool For believing the tailors’ lies © 2009 Nancy Lee Shrader |
