I Could Be Perfect ... IFA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
I Could Be Perfect ... IF I could be the perfect mother and wife If all those I loved didn’t cause such strife Filling my life with headaches galore And making my throat so very sore A perfect wife and mother I’d always be If my family and pets would just listen to me If my mother-in-law would not disavow We would be great friends by now She alone brought on this stife She said from the start, I'd be a bad wife Oh yes she would be the perfect in-law If from my business she would withdraw My dog could be a perfect pet If in the house she didn’t wet And bark at buses and trucks And didn’t chase the neighbors ducks Oh yes she would be the perfect pet If in the house she never wet My cat could be a perfect feline If she didn’t always cross the line Jumping here and jumping there On the table and attacking baby’s teddy bear Oh yes she would be a perfect feline If she didn’t always cross the line Now my husband and kids could be perfect too If they didn’t leave the house askew Dirty socks in front of the TV Candy wrappers and other debris Oh yes they would be a perfect family If each one agreed with me My mother-in-law would be perfect you see If she would keep her opinions far from me No that isn't the way my son likes that The kids should not be around a dog and cat Still a perfect in-law- she could be I do see an extreme possibility I could be perfect, oh yes I could If all my words could be understood By my husband, kids, the dog and cat Not making my home a place of combat Oh yes, I could be perfect in everyway If my family and pets would learn to obey © 2009 Nancy Lee Shrader |
