His Navy Whites

His Navy Whites

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

His Navy Whites

On that day she opened the door to her heart.
Although bankrupt it had been from the start.
She didn’t see a future, her heart covered in a shroud.
Then she saw him standing in the middle of the crowd.
Dressed in his Navy whites, he was Oak Groves’ favorite son.
His movement were like poetics, each and every one.
She watched him advancing towards her, a smile upon his face.
She almost turned to walk away, but a thorn caught her gown of lace
Confetti floated down from tall buildings as the parade marched in line
Either she would heed his advances or say, sir I must decline
