For Love of Baby P.

For Love of Baby P.

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

For the Love of Baby P.

A cry in the darkness

Heard in the light of day

A child of abuse

Abandoned along the way

Ignored and forgotten

His cries were in vane

Baby P. was neglected

No one investigated his pain

How could this happen that the

Authorities looked the other way

Baby P. was too young to speak out

Beaten and tortured, he couldn’t convey

Responsible parties who disavowed his pain

Should pay the price they are too guilty of this crime

And pay a full portion for their egregious acts

They like the three culprits are nothing but slim

Baby P. I speak for people everywhere

You should have been protected, loved and cared for

By medical staff, but especially by your mom

She alone could have helped, but chose to ignore

Baby P. now rests in Gods comforting arms

His pain has ended and his tears wiped away

He’s happy in heaven like he should have been here

Hopping and skipping on clouds this very day

Remember this precious little face

Don’t ever let another child fee his pain

Protect them, for they can’t protect themselves

Join forces in this child abuse campaign

Author's Note

Nancy Lee Shrader
I was appalled when I read the story of Baby P. This should never have happened to this beautiful child. It really makes be angry that a mother would have allowed this to happen. She was blessed with a beautiful healthy baby boy and just threw him away and I had to bury my child and I would have given my own life for his.

Sadly, stories of child abuse make the newspapers everywhere and each is a tragedy. I'm usually left with more questions than answers but know it's important let the general public know in order to heighten awareness that children are in danger. Each of us bears a responsibility in keeping our eyes and ears open. Sharon
