Peace Not War

Peace Not War

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Peace Not War

Welcome to these line

There is a war on

Brave soldiers join up

Brave soldiers do your part

Brave soldiers stand proud

We in West Virginia

Hear the calling to arms

Promises of honor

Promises of valor

Promises unspoken

Line is drawn in the sand

In a land faraway

West Virginia mothers cry

As their sons and daughters

Fall on the battlefields of death

Fear fills their eyes

As hope disappear from each heart

Bring back the hope

Bring our sons and daughters home

No honor is fighting our fellow man

No honor in killing those we don’t understand

No honor in dying on desert sands

No more war torn bodies

No more military funerals

No folded flags

No medals in cases

West Virginia needs

Our son and daughters

To eat at our tables

And play with their children

On sunny afternoons

Bring back our sons and daughters

To these West Virginia Hills
