She watched the sand shift on the seashore
As waves rolled in with massive force
She shed her wrap and her sandals
All would be right if she stayed the course
Her board slapped hard on the water
As she paddled out to sea with all her might
She saw the crest of the wave
Towering ten feet high, a beautiful sight
She corrected her stance and caught the big one
Taste of sea salt filled her beautiful smile
Her hands moved in balance
And she road for more than a mile
Why did she think of oranges?
At this moment in time
Tokens of places from her youth
Caught in her heart like a rhyme
In her mind’s eye she saw them
Little slices of orange smiles
And her grandmother so far away
Over a road of miles
It was her last thought that day
She saw first its fin
Gleaming white teeth clamped down
Exposing the sharks evil grin
The sea ran red with her blood
Her heart beat its last
Little surfer girl interrupted
Lost to a mid summer blast
oh! I wasn't expeting the end...
i was riding and dancing away in the "crest of the wave/Towering ten feet high, a beautiful sight"
and then... such a sad story...
so wonderfully told!
