Haiku PhobiasA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Haiku Phobias Phobia is fear Terror, creatures in the night Raw trepidation Rodents behind walls They are watching and waiting Until you’re alone Rats in the attic Scurrying across the floor Keeps me wide awake In the midnight hour Red eyes glow in the darkness Fear wells up in me Pollutes surroundings Vermin carry diseases Infects the body Venomous spiders Arachnophobias fear Damp and dark places Spiders on the wall Eight legs and poison stinger Doorway sticky webs Screams heard in the night Spiders hide in bedroom shoes Slip in your foot, Sting Poison swells the foot Working its way through the veins Soon unconsciousness Spiders lurk and wait Always hiding in the dark Constructing their webs Claustrophobia Fear of small enclosed spaces Cuts off one’s breathing Walls are closing in A frightening experience Sweat beads now popping Walk twenty-five flights Elevator brings out fear Never an option Too closed in, breathless Hyperventilated breaths Lungs feel restricted Phobias breed fear In the hearts of all mankind Everyone has fears Achluophobia We leave lights on through the night Fear of the darkness Acrophobia High places are frightening We stay on the ground Bacteriophobia Bacteria is our fear Fear of infection Brontophobia Fear of thunder and lightning Steer clear of windows Maniaphobia Is fear of insanity Mind lost in a maize Necrophobia Death and decay shatters minds A fear of dead things Phasmophobia Deadly fear of ghost sightings Go bump in the night Too many to count Phobias weaken the heart Unbalance the mind Phobophobia Fear of having phobias Alters the mind set © 2009 Nancy Lee ShraderReviews
