Haiku UnicornA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Haiku Unicorns Pretty unicorns They found favor in God's eye But were not too smart God saw much evil Frowned down on his creations Must destroy them all Noah found favor God chose Noah to survive Build an ark, God said Take your family too It will rain for forty days No one will survive Remember my words Take all animals two by two All will come in time For sure remember Don’t forget my unicorns I favor them most The Ark was finished Noah called them two by two And they came from everywhere Dancing on the cliffs Unicorns watched as he worked Still they dragged their hooves Nostrils smelled the air Thought they had plenty of time They didn’t smell rain The sun shined brightly There were no clouds in the sky Noah called to them Unicorns waited To see the first drop of rain Noah called them in Still they didn’t come All animals were inside Noah’s family too God closed the ark’s door Dark clouds were filling the sky Rain burst forth and poured Silly unicorns Did not heed Noah’s last call They climb the mountain Hear their snorted cries Mountain wasn’t high enough Drown in foolishness Moral of this tale Don’t dance around when God calls Be guided by faith Or be left standing On the shore in pouring rain And not on God’s boat You must heed God’s call When he knocks on your heart’s door Or be left behind
