Haiku Serengeti LifeA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
Haiku Serengeti Life On Serengeti Many voices are heard there Hunters and their prey Lions hunt their prey Scavengers trail cautiously Hyena is one Wild dogs hunt in packs Antelope, gazelle, their prey They hunt much like wolves The long necked giraffe Eighteen feet tall and lanky Its predator man Elephants walk through Knocking down trees as they go They only fear man Now the hunt is on Smell the fear that fills the air Who will die today? Scavengers play safe Hyenas keep safe distance Wait for leftovers Wild dog protected There is safety in numbers Lions pass them by Giraffe is too tall Lanky legs move with wonder Tall man has great speed Trampled if they try Elephants not an option Smells another prey Lion’s roar brings fear On the Serengeti plane Now the hunt is on Blood thirst in their eyes Zebras drink at the river Quietly they stalk Zebras unaware Danger lurks in the bushes They hears a low growl Zebras flee the scene Lion pounces, claws extend One Zebra moved slow Lions eat their fill Then bask in the noonday sun All is safe for now Monkeys swing from trees Playfully they chatter on High above the earth Safe from roaring lions Monkeys play the entire day Their tails a fifth hand Feast on bananas Monkeys have a carefree life Groom one another They’re jungle jesters Goofing around in the trees Make a laughing sound Lions and monkeys King of beasts and court jesters Share their jungle space © 2009 Nancy Lee ShraderReviews
