Strawberry Afternoon

Strawberry Afternoon

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Strawberry Afternoon

I should have known better

Why did I wait so long?

Where did all the strawberries go?

Is my hungry song

All I see is broken pottery

On the ground where they were

Strawberry leaves a plenty

Of this I must concur

It must have been the Aardvark

Using her long snout

She sucked up all those berries

And not an ant got out

My sensitive ears are hearing

The low growling of the bear

I hear something sneezing

I see ants & berries flying through the air

What luck it is for me!

I holler out with glee

Each ant took one strawberry

Leaving four big ones just for me
