10 Things I know to be True

Sarah Kay's advice to beginners in spoken word was to make lists. I did.

I know that the sun will rise tomorrow.

I know that the grass is green and the sky is blue, but only when I tell them to be.

I know that all I need is sitting in the palm of my hand

But sometimes my eyes are closed and I wouldn’t know my right hand from my left foot.

I know that I have the worst sense of direction

But nowhere could be better than where I’m headed.

I know that the words are mine to play with,

But sometimes,

It’s nice to just let them speak
