Dystopian Society

We don’t live in a world where we are divided by districts and factions.

Or do we?

The places for the rich and poor, privileged and marginalized have been deemed:

Ghettos, “good neighborhoods” and gated communities.

Because my skin is pigmented and my hair defies gravity I am systematically placed in an environment which predicts my future and those around me who share these characteristics.

Even though I love to bump Marvin Gaye, I can still groove to Brad Paisley…. I do not color inside of the lines.

The margins are too narrow, the road too straight. My interests are fluid.

The food I savor is ladled from a pot of international flavors, too rich and diverse for me to taste just one.

The voice from which I speak contains no accent. I do not talk like a: black, white, latino.

My tongue is not etched within the barriers of race despite what the media commands your eyes and ears to perceive.

Expectations are constantly defied because I am the piece which doesn't fit into any puzzle.

I am Dauntless, I am District Twelve, I am… Divergent.
