Intruders

Intruders

A Poem by Nervana Zahran

every time I think
of aliens invading us,
I smile -
they could be crueler,
merciless,
a terror from the sky
I imagine is kinder
than what we’ve done here.

a collapsing world
already waiting to end;
crimes against humanity
by humanity.
if I were them,
I would point and say,
look -
they’re killing each other,
turn around
let them sink.

I understand.
why save us?
we destroy to progress,
sabotage to win,
starve our children.
even our kinds of kindness
have maliciousness within.

it’s cynical, I’m afraid,
but still -
we keep building,
mending the fractured
loving in fragments
an echo of the stars
that burn out
only to start again.

Seems you are comparing alien behaviour to earthly humanity! Too much exploration into a Life of any kind seems to be the injustice and unkindness that any creatures need play with or work on! Thought, enquiry, noisiness always wants to crack open the Being, however its size, weight, thought prowess or merely a 'whatever'. You have done so in a gently but decisive manner if only to discover little as time lessens.. intelligence diluted, beauty lessened, reality minimal.

An interesting poem, finely laid and one to consider not merely once but more.. and more. Thank you.

' we keep building,
mending the fractured
loving in fragments
an echo of the stars
that burn out
only to start again.'
