Why no other EinsteinA Story by neurostar burnsIndications are that many think there should, in some way, be another Einstein-like personage and productiveness come about to shine a big light on science. It hasn't happened, so far. The following is to explore why that is and shine a light on why Albert Einstein did succeed in such a momentous way. Biographies tend to indicate Albert Einstein operated largely in isolation. He produced his own thinking, as in schools he produced responses that the standardized teachers could not accept. That is because they were operating in an inflexible mode rather than nurturing mode. Institutions tend to be biased in their curriculum and evaluations based on some prior adopted criteria which will be supported by other social factors rather than support novel ideas. This plagued Einstein early on. What happens is that institutions set their own objectives and expect all students to comply with any constraints. Plus they set schedules for submissions of productivity and have many reviews by the compliant peers. Hence, anyone working on a long term objective would find their endeavors subject to interruptions of scheduling. This can make an arduous journey for an aspiring person to manage to achieve their objective of production. This hampers endeavors even today. Einstein turned out to be fortunate when he bypassed further efforts in institutions. He took up the job in a patent office. He became free of curriculum constraints and schedule limitations. He brought his passion and thoughts to work and developed his ideas on his own, separate from the demands and constraints of the institutions. He basically had unrestrained hours to gather material that he would not have enjoyed in the institutions. He could confer with anyone from anywhere, unconstrained by any protocols. His enormous hours of free research provided a wide and substantial base upon which he could hone his ideas. He also borrowed many concepts and ideas of others that passed through is desk that were science based to build his acumen. He enjoyed comparatively free and open access to information and he had essentially unbridled time to develop his concepts. It may also be found that other significant contributors enjoyed similar opportunities while developing their concepts. It is noted that in his later decades, Einstein did not engage in public discussions on the nature of physics very frequently as compared to other colleagues of the same caliber who did frequent public appearances for discussions, especially after receiving the Nobel Prize. Neils Bohr and others continued social engagements and public discussions for years, especially on the quantum info, which Einstein did not favor. He became much more a private person again. If the constraining environments continue that restrict other researchers' opportunities, then the chance of nurturing another Einstein will be slim, even though there are tremendous amounts of data available since his time.
