George and Valley Forge again?A Story by neurostar burnsInspired by a pleasant recounting of the time the Continental Army and General George Washington spent in 1777 at Valley Forge one Christmas Day. Our so-called founding fathers. The article accurately portrayed the freezing conditions and snow that a rabble of troops huddling around fires barefoot and with red snow (broken blisters bleeding) while it accounts that some 11 thousand (mostly European) were in their warm houses for Christmas, unengaged. The British had captured the capital, Philadelphia, and dominated the supplies. Meanwhile, the politicians were also more comfortably sequestered, batting their lips. The only relief, far away, that was in the cards was that France would soon enter the fray on the side of the rebellious colonies. Sound familiar? Any improvement toward the troops since then? Just look at today's situations with enlisted veterans, a great many who also inhabit American streets.
