Rip Van Winkle-shock!

Rip Van Winkle-shock!

A Story by neurostar burns

Rip Van Winkle purportedly slept overlong. And when he awoke it is said he couldn't recognize the the changes in his environment since his slumber. His time was centuries ago and likely radical change in surroundings would be mild and not dense, compared to todays pace.
In his time there was little change in constructs, neighborhoods, housing, dikes, canals. That mostly stayed the same over time, yet he apparently was befuddled of what he beheld after his slumber. The land was mostly agricultural.
In those years, generations could store their belongings and valuables for decades in various parts of a house, basement, attic, or even have room for an extra person or family.
Prior generations had access to larger accommodation space in family designed homes,
in part due to natural resources, and so were more spacious. Items could also be stored in cubby holes, nooks, pantrys. closets. The home was a central importance and often the site of multigenerational living.
Now too many homes are totally predesigned with no room for leaway for excess. Many come with an increased liability that if they are made too compact then there is an increase risk of accumulative dust and fine debris build up. This can be irritating and detrimental for health.
A point is, now there are wide variations of land development compared to the purported time of Rip Van Winkle's  time.
Now living space is often detailed to studios, cubicles, flats, mobile homes, cellars,
closets, lean tos, etc. Not accommodating nor convenient for human habitation and limited in spacious comfort [zones]. This really would provide a cultural shock to a Rip Van Winkle, but it is present planning.
The structures are very Euclidean and allow no extra utility space regardless of needs of inhabitants. Are "someones" planning single child families? Without our consent. Sound familiar? Like copying China family policy?
So what do reasonable people have against "roomy"?
This current situation undoubtedly would be more of a shock to Rip Van Winkle than what he allegedly experienced in his more pastoral settings his story is based in.
Note: the material herein is not necessarily a reflection of the entropy of current societies. [Then whose?]

Reflecting the collapse that is slowly destroying our evolution. What will society be when the world wakes up from its current technological slumber.

Good read.
