Never will be yours

A poem based off of the poem "I am not yours" by Sara Teasdale, but more specifically the music score in SSATBB by S Randall Stroope. Written in the view of an Aromantic.

 I cant be yours

I could be

but that could hurt

that will hurt

You love me

but I cant love you

I don't feel love

Not for you

not in the way 

you love me

My boat

will never touch your seas

your vast oceans of love

to those

who have once loved me

I'm sorry 

never will I

venture deep into your waters

and though each sea is different

I will love you 

equitably and right

as you had treated me

Right and just

Some may have had frightening storms

 I will never venture again

while others have had gentle yet firm approaches

and some disappeared on the other side of the world

Again

I am sorry

that your love isn't reflected

that I may have played

with your heart

your gentle waters

your kind emphatic gestures

I am not yours

I wont long to be

as you may to me

and though some still yearn

please

turn your feeling over

as the wax from your candle of love

shape it

change it

don't burn it

learn 

learn to accept

to change

to not be mine

but to be with me

I am not yours

you're not mine

we will never be each others

romance never blooms

but it cant be doom

not from you

don't be despaired

your love will be repaired

by the tangles of connection and fate

shape and change

string and needle

the fabric of compassion

into something warm

into something comfortable

Never will I be yours

but this feeling we can share

no romance

only moments

of intentional silence

spent by a tree

under the sun

our hands will never hold

no lips will be met

but still

let there be thrill

in friendships made

proclamations through the decade

of relations that will never end

or until

we meet again

I really loved the way this poem reads, it reminds me of water. I like the approach you took in writing in one long trail of thought. I can see plenty of reflections from the inspiration poem, but I can also see how you came into your own strengths.
One thing I would recommend is reading it out loud and seeing how you feel about the flow. Since this poem is inspired by a musical arrangement, it might help to figure out how you might perform it. I know this really helps me, and most of my own poems are written to be spoken. The uneven lines sort of disrupt the nice flow of the poem, but I think it would make more sense to me if I heard it read in the way you intended.
I am 100% biased because I love slam poetry and my favorite kinds of poems to wright are the kinds that I have a sort of rhythm/beat to them.
Either way, I really liked this poem and I think it was very beautiful. It had some amazing imagery and the references to nature really connected with me. Great job!
