Away with the Faeries

Away with the Faeries

A Poem by Norman T

Away with the faeries

(inspired by an original Irish legend)

Beware when wand’ring in Celtic terrain
If your foot kicks a pile of rocks.
For it could be a Dun, the secret domain
Of the legendary faerie paradox,
Where you could find yourself in a different world
Like me , when I tripped on a stony mound
As I fell , a mist around me curled
And my limbs felt locked as though they were bound.

And then I heard a cacophony
Like a hundred voices in my ears
“This faerie dun is not for thee
Get ye hence - rejoin your peers.
We are children, snatched from kin
Never to be seen again.
But should ye e're return within
A year, - for ever ye’ll remain”

Then the mist dispersed and I was free
Unhurt, subdued and quite alone.
But - now I tread more carefully
To be sure I never kick a stone.

Love it! Some of your rhymes are beautifully scrunchy ...rocks, paradox and I was free, carefully! I also believe you should never kick a stone!

I find it interesting to read of Irish tales of faeries, but I prefer fiction novels like Wicked Lovely (Melissa Marr)
