Letters to my Daughter, Jodie

Letters to my Daughter, Jodie

A Poem by kailanthropy

Dear Jodie,
     you’ll break clouds inbetween your fingertips
and sprinkle them on mountaintops
because you think it’s pretty;

Dear Jodie,
     you’ll hold love by its leash
to keep it from gnawing at your
bones,
leaving scratches and
gashes in your skin,
unlike me;

Dear Jodie,
     you’ll whisper into the ocean
songs so stirring she’ll
crash into herself;

Dear Jodie,
     you’ll kiss the earth
with blinking footsteps
to let her know how much
you love her
and she’ll blush roses
to mirror your soul.

                                                 Love,
                                                     Mama
