Chameleon Heritage

A Poem by Odin Roark
"

For many men and women of understanding, there persists the preponderance of ignorance ala a singular macho or feminist stuckedness.

Chameleon Heritage

Are we not all
akin to a woman/man identity
facing us,
reflecting us,
at times one
at times another,
but always
a part of a whole ?

After all,
there has always been both
mother and father,
providing the boy of the girl,
the girl of the boy,
woman-child,
man-child,
dreamt and realized.

For many…

Nature's surreal process remains a puzzle,
even while walking beside us,
within us,
about us,
the truism is accessible to all,
though feared and rejected by many.

Ignore not the timidity of assurance,
for the mind’s preparation is
but a leavening of the feast to come,
where satiation comes by way of acceptance,
a willingness to appease
one’s innate appetite
with both gentle and heroic satiation.

Cater not to ignorance,
even as a boy fashioned after his mother,
or a girl bequeathed of masculine proclivity
evolves into the adult clothed in chameleon heritage,
encounters biological reality,
a feminine/masculine coalescing,
eventually procreating yet another
of life’s petri dish discoveries.

My…

How obvious this reality
moving about within us,
its perception mirrored with
grinning,
winking,
sighing expressions,
but fooling no one.

Why do we so often ignore
either the masculine
or feminine side staring back at us
asking for credence?
