A Play

About someone taking serious, their place on the stage of life and on the real stage of a play.

Why are you feeling down? 
why the heavy heart?
because in this play 
you can't remember your part?

We each have a role
we perform everyday
the role is unique 
in every way

There is such a one
who reads the script
his character is dry
for himself he has not equipped

another says his lines
for they are memorized
he knows how he is to act
to make the audience mesmerized

then there is such one as I
my character's lines I know
I remembered them well 
for this persona I must show

I get on the stage
blinded by the spotlight
I feel butterflies in my stomache
for I am within everyone's sight

temporarily my lines I forget 
improvise must I 
for if I stumble on my lines
they will percieve my character, a lie

To avoid this travesty
my character I must know
more than just memorize
the lines for the show

for if I feel my character
become one, my character and I 
i can perform on stage
for performing I know why

understanding my character 
the main reason for the play
if that I can learn
then I will be ready for that day

By learning my character
I affect others along the way
for I understand my unique role
and that makes for meaningful play
