Gas lamps on the street
flickered dances of hello
waving to the people below
I had pulled back the curtain
watching drifters and grifters
wondering if I was safe
venturing the wide open
cracked was my mind my window my time
fractures of images lay in a box
shook to death like an etch a sketch
locked in freeze frame, such breaths
to walk that street...down there with
the rest...
those beats, flat noted repeats as me
runs for the safety, cries of the empty
stays with the hungry, nibbling upon
forever, sustenance however slim
grimace this and blemish cringe
for I mar the populace carve
sticking knives to the night alive
watching from above the flickering light
as rover rolls over a passerby
number six lives in envy
forever building escape

to walk that street-- loved this part...favorite lines, great image.

Lots of great imagery here. The gas lamps, the frozen images, carving with knives and a night alive with flickering light...you've got it all here, my friend. This has a dark feel to it, but also a sort of sad withdrawn feel as well; to stay detached, but look down none the less. Well done.
