Released

It's burning, my flesh.
The skin of my back being licked
by flames.
I should move but..
The chains;
they come like hands from the ground,
wrapping around my ankles and wrists.
Still another around my neck.
They hold me here while
my flesh does burn.

But are they really there?
Are they chains that keep me from fleeing?
Or are they what keep me grounded?
These are not chains,
though they are hands.
Hands of those who love me;
those who care for me.
Helping me up, and dusting me off.
There is still a chain around my neck,
though it is simply my necklace.
A part of me.
The fire at my back was not fire at all,
but the rising sun from a never ending night.
Warming my aching flesh and
healing my mind.

Be wary of the circumstances in your path,
for it is YOUR path.
Interpret it as you wish.
Turn your chains to love and the fire to warmth.
Make your own life,
and live it well;
as you.
