An Ode to a Man From the Civil WarA Poem by PaigeYou were much like the black abyss at
the tips of my fingers. I poured out thoughts, feelings,
secrets shared not before You accepting each one with a
nonchalant air around your mind Time I can afford and thoughts I can
spare Feelings or ideas founded on you being
different That’s what is hard to give up to grin
and bear You hide and you’re a frightened
little boy I never thought it to kind to play
with one another like a toy You giggle at your thrills and wallow
in your dirty secrets too I find my opinion changed I no longer
have a respect for you You’re just like him there and the
shallow girl in your room Your mind’s only full of games and
traps to distract you from your doom Flutter around in her sweet, wet mind
and speak to the stranger at the bar I’ll be fine in my mind’s loft away
and keeping afar Regret of life that wasn’t deep enough
to play She always comes for the men living
your way I hope she has a little mercy on you
at night At least in all the mess your words
strung together music that was too often right © 2014 PaigeAuthor's Note
