Departure

Departure

A Poem by L

i met sorrow once
in a solitary tear
of the one who is left;
embraced by arms
that were not mine

and she was in every step
of the wanderer;
tracing his absent pattern
through an empty house

but You were there, even then;
in the strength it took to smile.
in the absence of words too,
You were there

in the broken depth
of human sorrow;
where the only stir
is the cry of silent prayer,
You were there

'but You were there, even then;
in the strength it took to smile.'

this is just astonishing, hugely emotional catching at the heart, i could feel the sorrow of being left and then all the strength of the person who stood there while it happened like a rock while everything crumbled around. this poem has some lovely depths and intricacies, a great exploration of human frailty.
