Summer Shades

Summer Shades

A Poem by parker

Come, have an autumn leaf.
Come, rest here in my shade.
I'll shelter you from sun and rain
With boughs that I have made.
I was born all green and fragile
Though shortly I grew hard,
With leaves and leaves
In greens and greens
Like others in the yard.
And all of us were matching
And dancing for the sun.
That April past would ever last
And cold would never come.
And we grew large and lazy
In our sunset summer eves,
Our limbs too full with all our greens
To dream they'd ever leave.
But the warmth slipped off with summer
To leave us on our own
And colors crept out to the tips
Of leaves that we had grown.
Our summer selves were moving on
And they had always been
We simply had been hiding
Beneath our emerald limbs.
And as the cold grew sharper
So did the colors of our boughs
Though we held on to our summer shades
As long as time allows.
We burned with orange flames and sparks,
That melted into yellow- reds,
We wore our rouge, our blush, our gold
Arranged all about our heads.
Now all of us are different
And dancing for the sun
As we leave and leave
Our greens and greens
And grow up one by one.
