Summer Morning

Summer Morning

A Poem by parker

And technology has brought us freedom,
release me from the shackles of ignorance
as knowledge streams forth from all sources.

And locks that bound us to our homelands
are picked open by the opportunity
to move change travel dream
off to distant places we've never heard of
and how many of those are left us now
an army of half recognized words
assembles in my brain
a snippet heard or read here or there
but do I know so much more
than those who've gone before me
or do I simply know different things
and claim that simpler thoughts than mine
are not intelligence?

And so I swim through a fog
of cords and wires of dots and dashes
of buttons and screens that have taken the place
of a handshake and the simplicity
of an accidental inkblot.
And I wonder that we call this better
because the grass has always been greener
in a couple of years
but the grass I see ahead of us is just an illusion
and it may look the same
but I remember the smell
of a summer morning.
