The Short Straw Never Has Good Intentions

The Short Straw Never Has Good Intentions

A Poem by We May Well Be The Ones
"

it's a new song I wrote.

"

my eyes burn like dim lit lanterns
I see in darkness, still I'm alone
my body, like an empty pantry
so thin and sturdy, still no one's home

my skin aches as if I were made
of old nails and blades in the rain
my fears stole all my dreams' gold
no reason to hold anything

I don't know where I'm going to be
it feels like hope is laughing back at me
I drink and I smoke everything I bleed
I still pray to a ghost hoping someday he will see

my smile breaks the way a wave shakes
a burdened template of children's feet
my lids shut as if I were bankrupt
hard effort, no love, except from the street

I don't know how I'm going to be free
it feels like hell is holding onto me
I'll drink and I'll sleep 'til my frame just lets it be
I'll still pray but I won't count these days I'll never breathe

hey darlin... this is quite good. this is basically great. it's a song, eh? so these are lyrics... and they are wonderful. :)

first of all, the title is fantastic. it makes me smile. great humor and use of words

"my skin aches as if I were made
of old nails and blades in the rain "

that might be one of the best two lines i've read in a long, long time.

yes.

just yes
