He's a strange one

a heart of stone

cant get an angle on him

he has no empathy.

never shows real emotion

no tears come from his eyes

shows of affection are rare

hard to make him out.

he never gives a hug

neither a hearty handshake

a smile if your lucky

yet that may crack his face.

he is a strange one

there must be something

back there in his life

that he never talks about.

still his children love him

his grandkids seem to know

he loves them as well

even though its not a big show.

he once told me years ago

don't put your feelings on show

people will use them against you

never let your weakness show.

but end of the day

he will be there for you

its rare he ever says no

if its a genuine thing.

I'm told he had a rough past

things he doesn't talk about

he once said so I am told

you cant see inside a broken heart

you never get over that.
