The Music Box

The Music Box

A Poem by Jenni Bailey

You made a safe place for me to lay

Gently swaddled with blankets

Then you winded up the music box

You left the room, but you still were close by

But now…

I still have the music box

But, I had to put it away

Because I wouldn’t be still enough to hear the music

I need to lay, safely in my bed

I need to be covered up with blankets

If I winded it up, it wouldn’t be the music I’d hear

It would be your voice… then I’d be still
