Broken

Broken

A Poem by Pheonix Dawn

She laces her vans
checking her appearance once more
with a smile on her face
she picks up that weight
the facade of strength
never letting anyone in
the demons inside her mind
cutting her down, telling her she's not enough
scenes that she wishes she could forget
while believing she was

broken by her trauma
defined by actions, words of others
she played with fire and burned
left to pick up remains

she wants love and peace
but all she was hell
constant battlefield of blame, tears, and bruises
hiding in the bathroom floor
she was convinced she was

broken by her trauma
defined in the thoughts
that haunt her in the night
she played with fire and burned
left to pick up the remains

with a promise to herself
she pushes through the pain
refusing to let her trauma define
rather redefining it
finding herself through the flame
she knew the she wasn't

broken just bent
molded and designed into
the perfect image of who
she was born to be
she played with fire and burned

a pheonix born of the ashes
she rises and spreads her wings
a fire in her eyes as she soars
she lets her light shine
learning to love herself again
learning her worth
she was finding her peace
she was no longer

Broken...
