Over the River and Through the Wood

Over the River and Through the Wood

A Poem by Scott H.
"

To Grandma Moses' house we don't go

"

“Over the River and Through the Wood”

Over the river and through the wood

We give our thanks as well we should

Home of the brave, land of the free

Dawn’s early light, say can you see

From Plymouth Rock to western shore

A growing nation needing more

We took the land with no remorse

For Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse

North and South and Civil War

Back of the bus and different door

We had a dream and now we have

A black President on Pennsylvania Ave

Purple mountains, rolling plains

Granite walls inscribed with names

Separation of church and state

Yet still we passed Proposition Eight

Over the river and through the wood

We give our thanks as well we should

Land of the free, home of the brave

It’s not my soul you need to save

Damn, one of my favoriters by you, your social references are genius in getting thoughts across, I hold a special disdain for Prop 8 so you got me to smile a bit. The last line is my favorite, a great ending that cuts through the build of TV church noise. great work.
