Lake Placid

Lake Placid

A Poem by p.kuhl
"

okay this is weird, I know. but it's so fun to read aloud!

"

so I never thought I'd make it

to heaven's opus, "Lake Placid"

but I beached up fully naked

sea-spent and freshly sacred

a ballad not quite what's expected

in the cove of eternally vacant

of paradise bay where I waited

for the welcome song they perfected

my arrival splashes a gong-hit

and stirs the washed-up chorus

in a rotting orchestra sand pit

a chum-bucket band of dead fish

that pluck lutes and flute their hooked lips

all-Dahlia vertebra crooked

a gobbledygook cabaret

in harmonic rehearsed display

they warm-up as they filet

and begin the angelic refrain

*

a virtuous holy wave train

an octopus conducts the music constructed

signing his name in the hymns

parting the air with eight limbs

rapidly flailing with whimsy derailing

and chugging along with the winds

the tempo rushes to quickness

crescendo cymbal crash hits

the snare increasing surges

urgency fluttering flashes

the trumpets blitzing dashes

in music that merges

the verse that emerges

with sound-wave lurches

submerging the clashes

of something so massive

the verge of catastrophe

the regal calamity rhapsody--

O, the humanity!

this sensational, irrational

fish-phantom national anthem

finish, quick!

finish, fish!

finish it!

finish!

fsh!
