UNSUNG
I kissed you when you were born
I held your body next to my heart
Now all I can do is mourn
I lost you to the war from the start.
I remember you as a little girl
Playing with dolls and taking in stray kittens
How I kissed your tears away
And now I remember how you fought in a war we could not win.
My darling daughter I just have to say
Mommy is so proud of you and all your pride
You served you country so proud and strong
Up until the day you died.
Even though this war is wrong,
You went in it with an open heart
And with stars in your eyes
You were brave from the very start
And stayed that way until you died
Defending our right to be free,
And Mommy misses you, my sweet angel.
I hope the powers that be
Can see themselves as fools
Who can’t understand the hurt and pain
That is wrought by this unnecessary war
One that is fought for someone else’s gain!
When will America say, NO MORE!
I promise you, my daughter, to stand up and fight
Your death will not be in vain
I will fight with all my might
And express my pride in you, when I see you again.
END ALL WARS!
