Angel of Death

Angel of Death

A Poem by Poetic Beauty
"

Something a little different than my normal

"
It seems the harbinger of Death
Dons his onyx velvet cloak
Riding across the earthly sky
On a steed of satin black

Death, quietly calling out names
Gathering those mortal souls
Whose human time has ended
Shadowed like a starless night

Long silky Obsidian hair blows
With the crashing of the wind
As sapphire eyes gleam like star dust
Gazing across the horizon

Feathered wings folded on his back
Hidden from people simple sight
As he softly repeats their names
But a hushed whisper upon the clouds

A comforter to the sick and frail
Whose moments tick by with pain
As he leads them peacefully
To Heavens strong shining gates

His arrival seems more frequent
Over the span of a couple weeks
Collecting a few nearer to me
Releasing them from earthly confines

The call that comes to us all, usually at the most inopportune time, that we cant hide from and for some it is the blessing they have been waiting on.
At least the release from earthly confines means being pain free at long last.
I do hope there are puddles to splash in in heaven. It is tge great leveller for everyone to be able to smile and giggle at the splooshes.
Plus, i bet in heaven they have instant drying so you never have to walk around with soggy socks!
Now thats my idea of heav.....what do you mean i'm not on the list? 😝

A heavenly spirit who cares for those who are sickly and near the shadow of death...he knows those who have passed and softly mentions their names...so caring....he lifts the pain of dying...."but a hushed whisper upon the clouds"...."to heavens strong shining gates".... beautifully written, a well meaningful piece...

A slightly different look at what has been called the Grim Reaper. This harbinger of death is no remorseless killer, but a kindly spirit that releases the suffering from their pain. He's also better dressed and better looking than the Reaper and has no need for that scythe. If I had to interview the two of them, I have no doubts as to which one I would choose.
PS: Do a spell check on the first word of the third line of the second verse. Ditto the first word of the second line of the fifth verse.

Oh death you paint it well in words. Thank you PB for sharing this poem with us. It's funny when I was younger I had a morbid curiosity of Death. Now being much older I hate it. Ironic.

Jewels of worded image encrust this setting of gold. A fine ring of life and death cycle of nature. Neither good nor bad it releases from pain maybe more. Here painted with metaphor it shines and glistens in the poetic lines. Loved it

vivid imagery in this...the personification of death as a dark, mysterious figure with sapphire eyes is compelling. it's also interesting how the poem portrays death as a comforter to those who are suffering.

"Death, be not proud..." John Donne
Death is destined to die while, after one short sleep, we are destined to wake, eternally immortal. If the truth were known, death is but a part of life inserted between new beginnings. We see that clearly in nature but deny it in ourselves.
