A single Tear

My tribute to the fallen heroes and one still fighting on this Memorial Day. Keep their spirits and courage alive.

On a bed made

Of cold dirt

Or hot sand

They down lay

Their weary head

 

A courageous soul

Feels exhausted

At the day’s sorrowful

Events

 

As they sent

A beloved member

Of their squadron

Home

To be laid to rest

 

Thoughts of home

Penetrate the overwhelmed

Mind

Wishing for a moment

That a familiar

Hug would comfort

The saddened heart

 

Family a world

Away

Paints vivid scene

In the mind

Of a different season

And a different time

 

Tired eyes flutter

Softly downward

As a single tear

Glides down

A bare cheek

Veiled in the

Onyx Night
