One Day for M 'Ldy Carole

One Day for M 'Ldy Carole

A Poem by Poeticpiers

Sonnet

"

One Day

The Jetsam cast upon the shore.
The ebbing tide has left behind
I wonder where it’s been before.
I search to see what I can find.
Some small but worthwhile souvenir
which will repay the hours I’ve spent
in combing beaches far and near.
Some treasure lost by accident.
One day I hope to strike it rich
and find gold coins amongst the sand.
But Lady Luck can be a b***h,
she doesn’t seem to understand.
That gold’s no use beneath the sea
but I’d accept it gratefully.

The opening lines place the reader on the shore wandering amongst the jetsam then invites them to share in the persona's curiosity of where things have been before and the playfulness of wanting to strike it rich. The end is delightful with a gentle humour while the flow and simple rhyme work well throughout. This is a really charming poem and I enjoyed reading it.

A fine sonnet it is, but the sea seldom gives up its secrets or its treasures. Much like a woman. :) Good write.

The sea does offer its gifts, but more often, they're not something you'd want. (plastic bottle, styrofoam cooler lid) I didn't count the beats this time. I trust you. Very nice poem, Poeticpiers. Sam
