Night owl for M lady Lena

Night owl for M lady Lena

A Poem by Poeticpiers

sonnet in tetrameter

Night Owl

The sky a layer cake of hues
from darkest greys to palest blues.
The sun has set and daylight fades.
The birds have sung their serenades.
All noise is hushed as darkness falls.
The shadows vanish from he walls.
As curtains drawn against the night
deprive them of the yellow light
that’s cast from windows far and wide
 Confining shadows to outside
The living rooms kept warm and bright
perhaps because men fear the night.
But I do not I am content
 the darkness is my element.

I loved the poem. So few people notice how many colors there are in the night. They only see the darkness. But it has its own kaleidescope all its own. Imagery was beautiful.

I like the gentle rhythms and rhymes--also the way you've included baking, music and colors. The ending is especially potent.

The passing form day to night is very well described, making it seem like the world changes trough simple events.

The last line is the best one.

Very strong imagery and pulls the reader right in. Although it fits the tetrameter, I would rework the first line as it is a bit stilted compared to the rest, something like "The light-streaked sky of layer cake hues". Should the "he" in line 6 really be "the" ?
