Red.

Crimson, vermilion and carmine
all very different shades of red.
Which human vision an define
oft in a single flower bed
Rose gardens can provide a feast
.A sight to delight world weary eyes
It doesn’t matter in the least
not every rose is worth a prize.
The shades of red which they display
are far to numerous to count
Each beautiful in its own way
all contributing to the fount
of floral beauty on display.
Each hue has its own part to play.

Orange.

A colour which nature will employ
 In many, many different ways
The Jaffa’s which we all enjoy
and flowers which attract our gaze.
A shade which some how fits between
dark yellow and some tints of red.
But show up best against the green
in any garden flower bed.
A word impossible to rhyme
which has left poets in despair.
Attempts have proved a waste of time
 but personally I don’t care.
It is a word I often use.
Much to the disgust of my muse.

Yellow.

Yellow beloved of the sun
Quite often forms the centrepiece
around which nature paints for fun
Bright colours which are sure to please.
The gorse bushes in shades of gold
show off the waste land at its best.
What finer sight could you behold
the differing tints add interest.
The paler hues of the primrose
although they shyly try to hide.
The vibrant colours of the rose
 displayed with arrogance and pride.
The shades of yellow nature
chose cannot be bettered I suppose.

Green.

The multi varied shades of green
which nature can and does display.
In spring time when she sets the scene
to introduce her latest play.
A stage director without peer.
She even paints the scenery
With subtle touches here and there
of brown amongst the greenery.
Though shades of green predominate,
 they blend,contrast and complement
Just as she deems appropriate
to demonstrate her main intent.
 Provide a background to enhance
new born spring flowers as they dance.

Blue
When twilight falls and night draws near.
Familiar landmarks disappear
into the hazy lazy blue.
which makes you see the world anew.
There is no sign of brown nor green
no other colours to be seen.
The world consists of shades of blue
 from indigo to palest hue.
This is the magic hour when
men are allowed to see again.
The fairy host as they pass by
 in cavalcade across the sky.
I watch them ‘til they fade from view
lost in the ever deepening blue.

Indigo

From all the shades of blue I know
and there are many shades of blue.
The darkest one is indigo
a colour nearer black than blue.
This is a colour I would use
but only as a last resort.
In keeping with my sombre views
 when writing a critical report.
It must be useful in some way
but what that is I do not know.
I much prefer a lighter blue
but what you choose is up to you.

Violet.

Of all the purples we can get
by subtly blending red and blue.
My favourite is soft violet
.The perfect colour in my view
when I am painting wet on wet.
As artists often choose to do.
An old technique still in use yet
Which can produce the exact hue
which I can use to paint for you
A still life that you won’t forget,
this is the goal that I pursue.
To be to nature’s colours true
a perfect mix of red and blue.
