Not for your eyes for friend Orlando

Not for your eyes.

Though they’ve retreated in the face
of the quick breeding human race.
Dragons did and do exist
that’s why the legends still persist.

They live in secret hideaways
where they have lived since olden days
The gentle dragons think it wise
to stay concealed from human eyes.

The meddling monkey mind of man
which interferes because it can.
Must be convinced without a doubt
the race of dragons has died out.

But sometimes on a summer night
some man will see by pale moonlight.
The dragons dancing in the skies
then he is forced to realise

The old wives tales are in fact true.
 contrary to the general view.
The favoured few allowed to see
the dragons fly all tend to be.

Men who prefer to live alone
far from the cities they have known
in the naïve days of their youth.
Before they learned to seek the truth.

Which can’t be found amidst the crowd
 who broadcast random thought aloud.
They’ve learnt by harsh experience
to be alone is their defence.

Against the hypocrites and cheats
who throng the cities crowded streets.
They find that isolation
 improves their concentration.

They see no reason to conform
to what’s regarded as the norm.
By lesser men too blind to see
their world view is a fallacy.

Such men have learnt to recognise
the key to understanding lies.
In weighing up the evidence.
Divorcing truth from false pretence.

So when they see the dragons fly
across the moonlit evening skies.
They can accept and not deny
what they have seen with their own eyes.

But see no reason to impose
Their views on other men who close
their minds so that they cannot see.
That dragons are not fantasy.

I fi should choose to say I’ve seen
the dragons fly, you’d think I mean
The pretty coloured dragonflies
to see them would be no surprise

Until you see with your own eyes
the dragons dancing in the skies
You won’ believe that they still do
Because you’re not entitled to
