Septembering or M lady SharonA Poem by PoeticpiersA poem in rhyming quatrains
Septembering
I remember that September.
When we were young so long ago.
Even now there burns an ember,
September breezes can make glow
You were so young and beautiful,
you filled my weary world with light.
To be with you was wonderful
each passing moment sheer delight.
I was in love and so were you.
But then we had that silly fight
as headstrong lovers often do.
You were convinced that you were right.
I must admit that I was too.
We parted then as enemies
which I regretted and still do.
September brings back memories
of useless youthful stubborn pride.
We offered no apologies
our dream of love unsatisfied.
The message murmured by the breeze.
We were both fools to young to know.
You must seize opportunities,
which seldom come and quickly go
and you are left with memories.
What could have been, what should have been
but was destroyed by foolish pride
and angry words we did not mean
Our new found love should not have died.
Each September I remember
and wonder sometimes if you do.
Do you still retain an ember?
which in September glows anew.
