Power Failure

Tonight I write by candle light
I am forced to by circumstance
Although the light is not too bright
I find that it gives me a chance.
To compare my life style today
with what I recall from my youth.
Reluctantly I have to say
If I should tell the honest truth
 The simple life of yesteryear
 may be a pleasant memory.
I much prefer my life today.
I need a brighter light to see
Advancing years have dimmed my sight
I dote upon electric light.

Having trouble with the generators in the North-east, Piers? We have a similar problem here, especially during the summer months when everyone turns on their air conditioners. The other day we fried our 50 year old ETSA (Electicity Trust of South Australia) fuse, so now we have a nice new one hanging off the side of our 140 year old cottage. But you're right. Candles and kerosine lamps were all very well in their day, as were pencils, but computers don't run too well without power - unless you sharpen the lead on a regular basis.
